Shelly came to the Lehigh Valley in 2006, when she joined Air Products' Career Development Program after completing graduate school. She and her husband, Drew, fell in love with the region and have lived here ever since.

Im Jahr 2020 wechselte sie zu Lehigh Valley Plastics und trat die Nachfolge von Gretchen Mohen als Präsidentin des Unternehmens an. Lehigh Valley Plastics stellt Kunststoffteile für Kunden aus einem breiten Spektrum von Branchen her. Bevor sie zu Lehigh Valley Plastics kam, leitete sie zwei globale Geschäftsbereiche bei Brooks Instrument in Hatfield, Montgomery County.

Sie hat einen Abschluss in Wirtschaft von der Bucknell University und einen Master of Business Administration von der Darden School of Business an der University of Virginia. In beiden Studiengängen konzentrierte sie sich auf die Bereiche Betrieb und Marketing.
